The Balloon Fiesta Ashton Court, Bristol.

When you go to watch the balloon fiesta you get to experience the ancillary fun… food and fairground rides.

This painting is about that August evening light and the people. There’s something special about summer evenings, that long, lingering light – the delicateness of the moment, knowing that the light is ebbing away towards the southern hemisphere makes it more precious.

The light carries the residual warmth of the day and the smell of food stalls and candyfloss.
